Any idea how many riders started?

Chris Skogen said...

388 people claimed packets for the Almanzo and 57 people claimed packets for the Royal. Not all were on the actual start line though.

Given the circumstances, I think that some mercy should be granted to those that finished outside of teh official cutoff, and they should be counted among the survivors, er, finishers.

Holy endurance. Don, Craig and Zach get my vote for total freaking He-men. 19 hours? In those conditions? Crazy.

Congrats to all finishers including those finishing post-time. Do tell us of your post-Preston ride.

They finished. Time be damned.

Thanks for a great challenge. The beautiful and varied course represents the work of an artist. Plus, the cyclo-cross section was very cool!!! The overall remoteness was invigorating as were the hills near the finish...
Bravo and Long Live Skogen and the Almanzo...

Agreed - they finished, they deserve to be on the list.

Thank you for all your hard work in organizing an amazing experience. I'm sure the scenery was gorgeous, but I don't remember anything but gravel lines and street signs. Maybe next time.

I finished the 100 next to Corey Godfrey. My time must be around 8:30-9?. My number was 684. Not really a big deal but i'd be nice to have my name up :)

ALMANZO! thanks for another hardest rides of my life... and I thought 2009's winds were bad.

Chris and volunteers, thank you so much for the amazing experience. The weather made finishing that much more satisfying. For those that finished outside the official time cutoff, I say give it to 'em. Staying out for 19 hours deserves recognition and respect. That's some badassness there.

Don said...

If Cornbread wants to refer to what Zack, Craig and I did as "badassness" I will humbly accept! I often wonder why we single speed and can get lost with 400 bike tire tracks in the road but we finished and thats all that matters! Thanks again to Chris for checking on us in the middle of the night and to all the starters, finishers, bike shop guys, townies and the super cool people we met on the journey..see you next year! Zack and Don

I'm late to the party and it looks like Chris has already decided to count all finishers as "official". Good decision! I think anyone who toughed it out and crossed the finish line deserves to be counted as an official finisher this year.
