Ladies and Gentlemen,
One month from today on the 25th of September we will once again take to the gravel roads that thread their way across Southeastern Minnesota on the 2nd annual Gentlemen’s Ride. As I’ve said before, this is a very bare-bones version of the spring classic come to be known as the Almanzo 100. This is my opportunity to ride the route and share the experience with those that rode in May as well as ride with some folks that I’ve not yet met. Needless to say, I’m looking forward to it.
Here’s how it’s going to work. The plan is to depart from downtown Spring Valley around 8:30am on Saturday the 25th of September. I’ll be at the Bakery getting some fuel so we’ll try to meet somewhere near there (more specific instructions coming soon). From there we’ll ride out en-masse to get to the same gravel start that we saw in May. After that it is a free for all. Please remember that the roads are not closed, the event is completely self-supported (no outside support, no drop bags, no nothing…fend for yo-self!). Oh yeah, and the first downhill can be a bit much for large groups at high rates of speed…so watch it!
Somewhere along the way there will be one checkpoint where each team will be required to check in. Since you are only as fast as your slowest rider, each team must have all four members present before leaving the checkpoint. Once your team is back together and leaves the checkpoint, you’ll be on your own again until the finish line back in Spring Valley. When your entire team has crossed the finish line, you will be responsible* for recording the time of the last team member across the line on a clipboard that will be provided. When it’s all said and done, the times will be recorded and the info will be posted. *This is a Gentlemen’s race so please be honest, ain’t nobody gonna call you on it but you!
As far as afterwards goes, we’ll play it by ear unless somebody has some master plan. Last year we just went back to the house for a couple around the fire and we can certainly do that again.
Thanks again for the interest and I’ll see you real soon if not before.
