Whoa.

Well, that was entertaining. I went out with Jim P. this morning and rode the wind down to St. Charles on the Almanzo gravel route. It was cold. Real cold. 4 degrees when we left and 50 below when we came back. There were pretty clean lines for the entire 25 mile trip down (with the exception of a small section that had been forgotten by those that plow) and the traffic was pretty much nothing (four cars all day). There was a flock of wild turkeys, not to be confused with a case of whiskey, and a bald eagle on the way into St. Charles. The landscape was epic and the sky was crystal clear. My legs felt pretty good on the way down, but my lack of sleep last night (3.5 hours) and a nagging soar throat made climbing short hills and spinning into the wind on the way back a nightmare. I peeled off from Jim at Hwy 7 on the way back and holed up in the Eyota Kwik Trip to wait for the cavalry.

All in all it was a pretty good day and should be just what I need for next weekends Cirrem down near Des Moines. Some photos below for those that care.

Riding tomorrow.

Here is the official plan:

7:30am - Leave from my house. (if you don't know where that is, email me)
12:00pm - Return from 60 mile gravel adventure to St. Charles. (if you don't know where that is, it's okay, I do)

Here it is.....

This is what the jersey is going to look like. If you're going to want one of these let me know via email and we can get sizing figured out. Also, this particular version, with the 100|2009 on the sleeve will only be available to persons who are riding in this years Almanzo 100. If you don't ride, don't fret. I'll be able to get you one that looks just like it, it just won't have the graphic on the sleeve.

The front is on the left and the back is on the right.

Jerseys, t-shirts and more stuff....oh my.

So, I am contemplating having some limited edition 2009 Almanzo 100 jerseys and t-shirts made. The trouble is that to have this done requires a pretty significant amount of money and without knowing whether or not people would be interested in buying these things, I am not sure if I want to spend that much. So....here are the questions:

1.Is anyone even interested in seeing the potential design for said items?
2.If there are interested parties, would you be willing to pay for said items, should you happen to like them?
3.Am I crazy?

...on the 28th

If anyone is in town this weekend and wants to head out for a nice chunk of gravel, let me know. We'll be leaving from my house this time as there will be a couple of gentlemen coming along to film a bit of this ride. The plan is to head out around sunrise and ride for about 50 or 60 miles. We'll do the first leg of the Almanzo down to St. Charles and back. Drop me a line if you want to come along. Peace.

Post Valentines...

Anybody up for a nice little gravel adventure on Sunday morning? I figure if we could leave from the Dunn Bros. on Elton Hills around 9am, we could hit some gravel and finish up around 1 or 2pm. Will go into the wind and ride it back. Let me know in the comments below or send me an e-mail. Peace.

One Hundred Six.

I've tallied up the post-cards and the final number is 106. Thanks to everyone! I will be putting up some lodging info in the next week or so for people coming into town for the race.

Also, I'd like to officially announce that I am opening my yard to anyone who might want to throw up a tent and bed down for free the night before. My yard is big, but not that big, so if you want in you'll have to get on the list quick.

Since I've offered up my lawn, I would also like to touch on some of the other events new to this year.

First: If you're coming the night before, there is going to be a social ride around Rochester. *More details will follow.

Second: If your going to be in Rochester well before the race I am going to be making pancakes (buffet style) at my house before the race. If you're in the neighborhood and up for some free carbs, stop by and eat 'em up. *More details will follow.
